About that last post, forget the Kindle part

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , , , on May 26, 2013 by Dena

I had uploaded the Kindle version to one of those online drives where apparently they close your account when there’s no activity for a month or whatever (didn’t know that when I made the account).

Sorry, but I don’t need to upload stuff like that very often, and I don’t want to have to babysit the file to make sure it doesn’t get deleted, so I’m just gonna leave it as-is.

If anyone is interested, just ask and maybe I can just e-mail you the file or something.

If it goes back up, I’ll make an announcement about it.

Gotta love the internet.

Minor little update (EDIT – … NOT!)

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , on June 5, 2012 by Dena

Been meaning to record a vlog, but I never seem to think of it at the right time, so this should do for now.

The short version is that I’m cutting back on video production, and spending more time on art and such.

I’ve gotten to a point where I need to focus on things that will make money–Lee and I will be forced to move sometime in spring of next year (we knew it was coming, we just didn’t have a specific time frame until recently) and right now we make just enough to get by and have very little saved up. Frankly, my videos do not get many views, and with Blip not paying out much lately … I’m just not making enough money on my videos to justify trying to do them on a regular basis.

Clearly, I’m never going to be able to make videos full time and be able to live off that–most people who are able to pull that off have either found a great niche where there’s a big audience for it, or they’re still living at home so they can get away with doing a part-time job, or maybe they’re in school, and they have more free time. Anyway, what I’m trying to get at is that making videos is really not going to get me anywhere–there’s nothing to work towards in this area.

Now, this does not mean that I’m going to stop making videos. I like doing it, and I think I can honestly say I’m good at it and I’m usually proud of the end result … plus I’ve made many awesome friends through making videos (hey, I became friends with a voice actor from one of my favorite games–how awesome is THAT?), so I certainly don’t consider it a waste of time. I will continue doing it, but only on a monthly basis or so (which isn’t too different from what I’ve been doing lately, but I guess now I’m making it “official”).

October will still be “Silent Hill month” for the Game Den, so don’t worry about that, and I plan on trying to get “Transformers month” out sometime this year (Facebook friends might remember that–I threw together an opening sequence in January of last year and posted it there), and I have a Film Den episode I started before my hiatus last year that I can finish and put out at some point. But it’s going to be a relatively uneventful year for my videos overall. Other than that, I’ll still be doing HorrorCast episodes and commentary videos in between those few big things I have planned.

So what DO I plan on doing this year? Two things, basically: My Little Pony and Cyborcats. I’m sure that got a laugh out of some people, but let me explain =P

Since I’ve pretty much become a Brony/Pegasister, and there’s a big market for MLP plushies (they can go from anywhere between $50 and $1000), AND I’m generally good at sewing, I plan on making those and selling them on ebay. Currently working on the first one (it’ll be Twilight Sparkle–I’ve posted in-progress pics on Facebook). Also, I’ve been really enjoying doing MLP fan art lately, so I’ll be hopefully selling prints of those at conventions (and possibly online–I’ll have to look into that) … AND, I MAY EVEN START TAKING COMMISSIONS (I’ll go into that more when/if I make a concrete decision about it) … but only on MLP fan art, just because I’ve come to love drawing ponies so much, I figure I may as well try to make some money off of it =P

As for Cyborcats … hopefully I can finish those character sheets and get working on the comic book again. I just feel I’ve been putting them on the back burner for far too long. This is obviously not something that’ll make any money in the near future, but this one is more about working towards a goal. Cyborcats may only ever be something I do on the side, but I really need to make it happen in some form.

Wow, I really didn’t mean to go on for so long–figured this’d be a quick little entry. I guess I’ll probably still record that vlog, but I think I pretty much covered it here o.O

(PS: I plan on cross-posting this everywhere, so sorry if you end up seeing it multiple times =P)

A little harder getting back into the swing of things than I thought it would be

Posted in Uncategorized on December 10, 2011 by Dena

I am working on it, tho.

I think I mentioned in my last post that I was doing a lot of overtime at work and that’s what was cutting into so much of my video editing time, but that it was slowing down so I should have more time now.

Well, it’s back up again before I really had time to get back into the swing of things. Hopefully it won’t last as long this time. Of course, right now, holiday stuff is also cutting into editing time.

When I get out of the habit of doing video editing on a regular basis, it can be hard to get back into it. Maybe it’s because there’s so much I want to do that I end up letting it overwhelm me and I end up not getting anything done.

Here’s hoping next year will be a productive one. Not only do I want to make more videos, but I want to get Cyborcats (my comic book idea for those who don’t know) off the ground. Also hoping that life in general will get better. It’s been a rough year over all.

*crosses fingers*

Yeah … I don’t know what happened. Might be my getting more into Facebook so I’ve been posting stuff over there more. But Facebook does have it’s limits, so it’s good to have a more … well, bloglike setting to post more lengthy thoughts.

Not that there has been much to say anyway. Work was hell for a long time and when I wasn’t at work, I had stuff to do at home. Don’t wanna bore people with my personal life, but I had so little free time already that I basically had no choice but to cancel the two videos I was working on and go on official hiatus for about three months so I could at least have a little personal time.

I spent that time drawing, which I haven’t done seriously in a very long time–I forgot how much I can enjoy it–it’s a nice mix of relaxing and productive. For those who don’t know, I’ve got a concept for a comic book series that I’ve been picking away at for YEARS and it was nice revisiting it for awhile. I hope to make some real headway on it by next year, but we’ll see. More on that some other time, maybe.

But things have improved. Work is less busy, home is less busy, and I’m getting bitten by the video producing bug again. I’m letting it be a gradual process, though. I am off of hiatus so I am at least posting monthly videos (that’s the bare minimum allowed for Channel Awesome producers who haven’t arranged for time off) but I hope to work back up to at least bi-weekly, if not weekly. Again, we’ll see.

In the mean time, horror fans should check out my new podcast that I’m doing with Tony Helms from Random Odds, where we chat about horror movies and horror games for around 30 minutes: HorrorCast.

For now, I’ve picked up one of the videos I had to put on hold and I’ve made a LOT of progress on it–I don’t want to make any promises I can’t keep, but hopefully it should at least be done before October (since we know what happens in October, don’t we? ^.~). All I’ll say is that it is a horror movie.

Anyway, better wrap this up. I will try to not neglect this place in the future.

Quick update

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , on March 26, 2010 by Dena

The first Film Den was a success, and I have many more ideas in the pipeline. If more episodes turn out this well, it might end up trumping The Game Den as my “main” show, as the episodes are easier to do, and there’s a bigger audience for movies than games.

I have another one planned for the end of April. I’m in the process of moving right now–hence the lack of updates, and why I’m mostly putting old videos up on–so it’s difficult to work on it, but hopefully I’ll make that deadline.

As for games, I may end up doing another Let’s Play soon. I’ll try to put up a poll soon to see which one people will prefer (probably won’t be any of the ones people have been asking for–sorry).

Guess that’s it for now. I’ll try to remember to update this thing more often.

Better late than never

Okay, so I meant to update on weekends and I missed it by a hair this week. Not a whole lot to say anyway, just a couple random updates:

– The Game Den: Silent Hill 3 is in the can. Yayz ^.^

– I hope to have a new episode of Pixels as Big as Cats! out within the next couple weeks.

– I’ll probably be doing another Let’s Play soon (but something short).

– I’ve also got a couple videos I started before I got accepted onto–put them aside so I could work on The Game Den–I’ll be finishing those soon as well.

I haz a blog!

Been meaning to do this for awhile–finally decided to take the plunge.

I plan on using this for posting updates, links to videos, and for posting fan stuff.  Hopefully I’ll be able to update it weekly or so (should be easy at first since I have a big backlog of stuff I could post =P).

I’ll probably also ask for opinions at times, so please give me feedback when I do.
